The Need for God’s Guidance & Revelation

“Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go. Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, And your righteousness like the waves of the sea. Your descendants also would have been like the sand, And the offspring of your body like the grains of sand; His name would not have been cut off Nor destroyed from before Me.” – Isa 48:17-19

‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’ – Jer 33:3

Introduction

The terrain of life is difficult and God has not made anyone to go through this difficult terrain without His guidance and revelation.  But when as humans we try to journey in life without revelation and guidance, we miss out of God’s grand plan for our lives. This was exactly what God pointed out to the Israelites in Isaiah 48:18-19. He told them that if they had paid attention to his commands, they would have had lasting peace, well-being (health and vitality), and their descendants would have really been so numerous as he had promised their forefathers.

Like the Israelites, many who claim to be Christians today are no longer following in His footsteps. Many have gone out of the radar of God’s guidance and revelation. We have substituted spirituality with intellectualism. We now pay more attention to trends in the media and political circle, scientific discoveries and solutions while neglecting the voice of God.  Rationalism has taken over the life of faith and we often cannot trust God for anything again. We are often too much in a hurry to wait to listen to God and the noise and distractions around us have become so enormous that we can’t even hear God.

Failure to seek God’s guidance and revelation is to our own detriment

The Lord did promise that if we call to him, he will answer and show us great and mighty things we do not know (Jer 33:3). Human understanding, no matter how sophisticated it has become, is still very much limited.  We need divine guidance and revelation to navigate through life and if we fail to seek and obtain it, we will never be able to reach our full potential let alone fulfil the mandate of God for our lives. Without guidance, we will miss out of God’s supernatural provisions for our needs and well-being.

Finding Guidance outside God

We often stop seeking God for his guidance and revelation when we have created alternatives for God in our lives. Because the ways of God are entirely different from the ways of men (Isa 55:8-9), many have lost the patience of waiting on God for guidance. The fast pace of things in the world and the desire for great achievements have led many to abandon God and follow their own ways. One of the ways to know if we are still following God or not is how much we are depending on God for guidance and solutions. This could be measured by our prayerfulness, studying God’s word and meditating on it to find revelation.

In conclusion, God has promised to guide us into even the minute details of our lives. When we allow God to guide, it is to our own blessedness. When we refuse God’s guidance, it is to our own detriment. While many things are changing in the world, God remains unchanged and his purpose never changes. God is both in the past, present and in the future. Nothing catches him by surprise so why not thrust your life under His care?
