Seated With Christ In Heaven To Rule – Ephesians 2:5-6
Last week we remarked that when we get born again, our position is shifted from the kingdom and dominion of Satan to the kingdom and Lordship of Jesus. This shift of position afforded us a great opportunity to jointly exercise dominion with Christ over the earth. This is a great heritage every believer possess (See Psalm 149). Because Christ is seated at the right hand of God (the power side), His followers are seated there with Him.
Be on “Skype” with Jesus in Heaven
The question that may come to mind when you ponder on the idea of jointly ruling with Christ is “how can someone be in two places at one time?” This is very easy; we do it all of the time through technology. I can physically be in Ibadan, but I can also be on Skype with someone in Atlanta in the United States and participate in a board meeting. Through human technology, we can be in two places at one time.
Now, if man can produce technology that can put us in two places at one time, don’t you think the creator of the universe can do the same thing? You are physically on earth, but you are supposed to be functioning from the position of heaven. You are seated with Christ in the heavenlies. The enemy tries to keep you thinking you are bound by the rules of his kingdom rather than accessing the authority of Christ in the heavenlies. When Satan does this, he can keep us perpetually defeated and our world broken. But the only final authority is that of Jesus Christ. This means we must operate from a divine point of view rather than a human point of view.
Keep your alignment with Christ intact
As children of God, we have been transferred from the Kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. Problems arise when we start listening to the old head, Satan, who owns and runs the kingdom of darkness. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, when He died, you died with Him. When Christ arose, you rose with Him. When Christ was seated at the right hand of the Father, you were seated with Him. In other words, you were made to function in concert and cadence with Jesus Christ.
In order for you to legitimately access His sovereign authority over all things, you and your world must be aligned underneath Christ’s headship. This includes your thoughts, choices, words, and perspective. It is in properly aligning yourself under Him and His word that His authority becomes manifest in your own life as you seek to advance God’s kingdom on earth.
With the resurrection and exaltation of Jesus Christ, He has been made head over all rulers and authority. When a person accepts Jesus Christ as their sin-bearer they have transferred kingdoms. Jesus Christ is then to be preeminent in their life, to have first place in all things.
