Featured Post – In Pursuit of Godly Wisdom
“But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God” (I Cor. 1:24)
The truth is you were created a highly intelligent being in the beginning. This was evident in Adam, the first man, when he singlehandedly named all the animals in the garden (Gen. 2:19). This was a clear testimony that man first operated with a very sound mind before the fall. With this, he manifested the wisdom of God. This was possible because he carried the very life of God: “Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature” (Gen.2:7). God is still passionate that you live and grow daily in His wisdom.
However, when man sinned he lost access to this wisdom. But the good news is this; Jesus came to bring about the redemption of humanity. He came to restore everything man has ever lost to sin including the operation of divine wisdom through sound mind. When a man therefore receives Jesus, he automatically gain access to the wisdom of God. He only needs to learn how to put it to work and make it grow and this is what I want to share with you in this write up.
God’s Wisdom is real!
Please get this one thing clear. The wisdom of God is the most valuable asset you must embrace in the journey of life. What exactly is this wisdom? It is the ability to understand and apply the word of God to every aspect of life (Matt. 7:24-27). If Jesus is the word of God according to John 1:1 and by Him all things were made then He must have answers to every problem and difficulty you will ever have. Whenever you are operating from scriptural perspective on every issue then you are activating the wisdom of God in you. When you keep growing in this dimension, your life will continue to reflect the glory of God and attract people to Him.
God’s Wisdom is Superior
“This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic…But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”(James 3:15, 17).
This bible passage identifies four different kinds of wisdom – earthly wisdom, sensual wisdom, demonic wisdom and God’s wisdom. The first kind is merely a natural wisdom which is limited in power and effect. Sensual wisdom is intellectualism and it is also weak when it comes to dealing with things that are beyond physical. That is why a man may be highly academically intelligent and still remains a fool when it comes to spiritual things. Of course some people have resulted to seeking demonic wisdom only to discover that what they possess is emptiness –it’s only a trap into doom.
But God’s wisdom is superior. This kind of wisdom is impacted by the Holy Spirit. It is supernatural in nature because it comes from above. Its effect is noticeable and durable because it is peaceful, unselfish, spiritual, and full of good fruit.
In proverbs 3:13-18, King Solomon outlined peculiar characteristics of this kind of wisdom we are talking about. God’s wisdom is profitable than riches. That is, instead of pursuing riches first, it is better to embrace wisdom. Having God’s wisdom will give you access to the top. When you pursue godly wisdom and grow in it, then it brings you to the lime light. Apart from this, Solomon remarked that when this wisdom dwells in you, it makes you pleasant and prolong your days.
Discovering God’s Wisdom
God’s wisdom is available. But how do you access it? The first basic requirement to accessing this kind of wisdom is to learn how to fear God: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endures forever” (Psalm 111:10). This is scriptural basic requirement for operating in divine wisdom. Your quest for wisdom actually must start from this point. What does the fear of God do in your life?
The fear of God keeps you away from sin.
Consider the lives of Joseph and Daniel. It was actually because of their hatred to sin that gave them access to the demonstration of the versatile mental abilities in their respective domain. Look at Joseph’s radical commitment to holiness as expressed in Genesis 39:9: “…How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? What helped him to take this stance was his fear for God. He later said to his brothers, “…For I fear God” (Gen. 42:18)
The fear of God opens you up to God’s secret
“The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and will show them His covenant” (Psalm 25:14). God has secrets – things that are not available to ordinary seeker. These secrets are made available to those who reverently serve Him. When you operate with the secrets of God, then you become a wonder to your generation.
Develop an undying passion God’s word
David said, “The entrance of thy word gives light; it gives understanding unto the simple” (Psalm 119:130). The word of God gives clear direction on every issue of life. So, when a man takes time to meditate on God’s word there is an immediate influence of God’s wisdom on such life.
Keep a careful company
You are an average of the five people you keep friendship with. You must then make up your mind to always walk with wise people- those whose priority in life is to please God. When you walk with the wise you will also become wise; when you keep company with fools you become one yourself. The truth is, the wisdom of God is discovered as you carefully select your company.
Seek Divine Impartation
There is the place of divine impartation. When Moses laid hand on Joshua, there was an impartation of the spirit of wisdom (Deut 34: 1-9). Solomon also was imparted divinely by God with the spirit of wisdom (2 King 3:9). So you can seek for a man or woman whose life demonstrate God’s wisdom and receive impartation from such individual.
Deployment of God’s Wisdom
God’s wisdom is available and applicable for every area of your life. When the wisdom of God is in operation in you, life becomes a pleasure rather than a pressure. You must ask for God’s wisdom at every juncture of your life. God promised that His wisdom will be available for you in every facet of your life. For excellence in your academic pursuit he promised to deploy His wisdom to you: “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”
In the choice of a marriage partner, He has made available His wisdom for your use if you will leverage on it. “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness (see 2 Cor. 6:14).
Even when it comes to making a very crucial decision of life, God said he would make His wisdom available: “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “this is the way; walk in it” (Isaiah 30:21).
Let me challenge you, as a concluding remark, with this word of scripture: “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your getting get understanding” (Prov. 4:7)
