Decide WHAT YOU WANT
“The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.”
Success is a journey! But we must understand how success looks like so that we will be sure we are on the right track. For Jesus, he knew he must go to the cross and obtained redemption for humanity. So, he was able to endure the cross, scorn its shame because of the joy of the ultimate that was set before him (Hebrews 12:1-3). Paul also knew what success looked like and so he was able to maintain a focus of seeking for only one thing (Phil. 3:12-14). If you have not decided what exactly you want in life, you will not be able to pursue with steadfastness and stability. Have you decided on what you want in life?
Case Study: Elisha and the Double Portion of Anointing – 2 Kings 2:1-10
“Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground. When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?” “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied. “You have asked for a difficult thing,” Elisha said, yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours – otherwise, it will not.” (2 King 2:8-10)
Learn from Monry Roberts
When Monry was in high school, his teacher gave the class the assignment to write about what they wanted to do when they grew up. Monry wrote that he wanted to own his own 200-acre ranch and raise Thoroughbred racehorses. His teacher gave him an F and explained that the grade reflected that he deemed his dream unrealistic. No boy who was living in a camper on the back of a pickup truck would ever be able to amass enough money to buy a ranch, purchase breeding stock, and pay the necessary salaries for ranch hands. When he offered Monry the chance of rewriting his paper for a higher grade, Monry told him, “You keep the F, I’m keeping my dream.” Today Monry’s 154-arce flag is up Farms in Solvang, California, raises Thoroughbred racehorses and trains hundred of horse trainers in a more humane way to “join up” with and train horses.
Vital Keys to Remember
- Once you have decided why you are here on earth, you have to decide what you want to do, be, and have.
- Don’t let anyone talk you out of your vision.
- In the journey from where you are to where you want to be, you have to decide where you want to be.
- One of the main reasons why most people don’t get what they want is they haven’t decided what they want.
- Once you are clear about what you want and keep your mind constantly focused on it, the how will keep showing up – sometimes constantly just when you need it and not a moment earlier.
